Honourable Mde Justice Louise Esther Blenman

Honourable Chief Justice Louise Esther Blenman is a distinguished Caribbean jurist with over twenty-two years’ experience as a Judge. In September 2022, she was appointed Chief Justice of Belize. She served for nineteen years on the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, nine years as a High Court Judge and ten years as a Justice of Appeal, authoring hundreds of judgments.

She served as Deputy Solicitor General (Ag.) of Guyana, Solicitor General of Saint Lucia, and practised at the private bar. She lectured at the University of Guyana for eight years and later chaired the ECSC Judicial Education Institute.

Chief Justice Blenman is spearheading the successful transformation of the justice system in Belize and has established the Criminal Justice Board (Needham’s Point Declaration), the Sentencing Guidelines Committee and Advisory Committee. In July 2024, Chief Justice Blenman delivered the keynote address at Guyana’s First Legal Conference on Criminal Justice Reform (Needham’s Point Declaration).
