The Honourable the Chief Justice, Mr. Justice Ivor Archie O.R.T.T., was sworn in as the 8th Chief Justice of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on January 24, 2008, becoming the youngest person to assume this office since independence. Born in Tobago in 1960, he holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from The UWI, St. Augustine, and an LLB from the University of Southampton.
Chief Justice Archie was admitted to the Bar of Trinidad and Tobago in 1986. He then served in private practice and senior legal positions in Trinidad and Tobago, the Turks and Caicos, and the Cayman Islands, where he acted as Attorney General.
In 1998, he joined the Judiciary as a Puisne Judge and was elevated to the Court of Appeal in 2004. As Chief Justice and President of the Court of Appeal, he has spearheaded judicial reforms, expanded the use of technology, and strengthened stakeholder collaboration. Chief Justice Archie is married and has two children.
