Justice Chile Eboe-Osuji was sworn in as a judge of the CCJ on 15 April 2025, following his appointment on 27 January 2025. Prior to joining the CCJ, he served as the Distinguished International Jurist at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law, Toronto Metropolitan University (2021–2025).
Justice Eboe-Osuji has held several prominent international roles, including President of the International Criminal Court (ICC) (2018–2021), judge of the ICC Appeals Chamber (2018 – 2021) and Trial Division (2012 – 2018), and Legal Advisor to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva (2010-2012). He also worked with the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the Special Court for Sierra Leone as senior prosecution counsel.
He practiced law in Nigeria and Canada, having been called to the Nigerian Bar in 1986 and to the Bars of Ontario and British Columbia in 1992. Alongside his academic career, he held visiting professorships at institutions such as Stanford Law School and the University of California.
Justice Eboe-Osuji is also a prolific scholar, authoring End of Immunity (2024), International Law and Sexual Violence in Armed Conflicts (2013), and co-editing Protecting Humanity (2010).
