Dr Timothy Affonso is an attorney-at-law with almost 20 years’ experience. He is a former State Prosecutor; extradition attorney, foreign affairs attorney and civil litigator. He is a national scholarship winner and a Chevening Scholar.
He has a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus. He has a Masters of Laws Degree in Public Law and Human Rights, with Distinction, from the University College London. He has a Doctor of Philosophy in International Law and Human Rights from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus in which he focussed on judicial approaches to the use of unincorporated international human rights treaties.
At the Faculty of Law at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, he has taught criminal law, contract law, property law, constitutional law and human rights. Dr. Affonso, also is the Course Director for Constitutional Law and Law and Legal Systems at the Hugh Wooding Law School and he is a Tutor in the Trial Advocacy Programme.
He is a Director and co-chair of the Caribbean Centre for Human Rights and a founding member of the International Law Association (Caribbean Branch). His research interests include international human rights with a focus on access to justice, vulnerable groups; comparative constitutional law, post-colonial laws and public international law.
