From 18-20 October 2023, the CCJ Academy for Law convened its 7th Biennial Law Conference in Bridgetown, Barbados which focused on achieving a modern criminal justice system in the Caribbean. Across the 3 days of the conference, participants were treated to stimulating and engaging discussions, which the Drafting Committee of the 7th Biennial Law Conference documented and captured as recommendations in a document agreed to be referred to as the “Needham’s Point Declaration on Criminal Justice Reform: Achieving a Modern Criminal Justice System”. The finalized version of the Needham’s Point Declaration follows 6 themes and contains 39 recommendations for the reform of the criminal justice system in the Caribbean. The document has received high commendations and significant interest from stakeholders across the entire region.
The mission, vision, focus and values of the CCJ Academy For Law are grounded in its founding documents (including its articles of association) and in the memorandum of understanding with the Caribbean court of justice.
